Drobtinice iz studia/A Little Crumbs from my Studio

NAVDIH

Navdih. Uaaaahhh!

Fascinirajo me ta vprašanja.

Kako fascinantno! Veselim se!

INSPIRATION

The key ingredient in creation — especially when I think long-term. If I want to make something that won’t just sink into the sea of time. But what is inspiration? Where does it come from? How do we bring something from the invisible into the visible — something that doesn’t even exist at first? Uaaaahhh!

These questions fascinate me. Inspiration — that magical ingredient that turns nothing into something. What a miracle! But let’s not get too romantic. That’s when the real work begins: scribbling, sketching, exploring. Frustration, breakthrough, joy. Sometimes it all just flows right away. It’s never the same. Most of the time, the process itself drives me so much that I could draw and draw endlessly. Even now, I spend entire days in my studio — my sacred space — drawing.

Lately, though, I’ve started bringing pauses back into my day. I go outside, into the forest. How beautiful it is. So full of color. I watch the leaves fall like golden rain. I feel transported into a world where time doesn’t exist. It’s fascinating — what inspires us. Inspiration is everywhere, but it’s never the same everywhere. Every place inspires in its own way, each with its own taste, its own sound, its own tone.

When I read a story I’ve been given to illustrate, the story itself is the inspiration. But I also need inspiration outside the story, so I can create something genuine within it. It’s fascinating to dip into that creative soup and scoop out what I need for my work.

I miss the little doodles, the sketching, the blending of colors — because I’ve been completely devoted to commissioned work that’s booked a year ahead or even more. How grateful I am for that! But inspiration keeps tapping me on the shoulder, waiting for me to start creating something of my own again too. Not just for a picture book. Not just for a client. For me, too. For my soul. I almost forgot that this part — just as vital and necessary — keeps the blood flowing in my veins. How fascinating! I’m excited.
